ST. GEORGE — The Utah Department of Transportation warned travelers returning home this weekend to watch out for construction workers on Sunday night in Washington County.
According to the press release, construction continues on Interstate 15, between Green Spring Drive, Exit 10, and Washington Parkway, Exit 13, in Washington City.
As previously reported by St. George News, road construction crews are widening the freeway to three lanes of travel in both north and southbound directions.
Beginning Sunday night, August 13, crews will be milling to prepare for asphalt work from milepost 10 to 11 northbound, UDOT stated in the media release. The night work and traffic pattern changes are expected to be completed in one night.
During the milling process, both directions of the freeway will be limited to one lane of travel for 12 hours, between the hours of 7 p.m., Sunday, August 13, and 7 a.m., Monday, August 14. UDOT asks that drivers be patient and plan accordingly for possible delays.
Once completed, in 2024, crews will have added a new interchange — to be named Exit 11 — giving travelers the opportunity to leave the freeway onto Washington City’s Main Street.
UDOT Field Engineer Nathan Merrill said one of the easiest ways to pay respect while driving in construction zones is to use common sense in areas where employees are trying to complete tasks, while motorists drive by at high speeds.
“Put the phone down,” he told St. George News in a previous update.
UDOT Senior Communications Manager Kevin Kitchen told St. George News in an email that the interchange construction project is slated to be completed by next summer.
