The St. George branch of Summit Foot + Ankle Clinic, one of nine in Utah, is led by podiatrist Dr. Ryan Ellsworth and offers a full spectrum of treatment options.

Now they’re expanding to serve the area’s growing population with the addition of two providers: podiatrist Dr. Landon Cameron and nurse practitioner Carolyn Krenkel.

Whether someone is suffering from a mild injury or a chronic condition, podiatric specialists are the most qualified to care for their feet and address physical limitations caused by pain in the lower extremities. Cameron and Krenkel will help patients get to the root of the painful issues that are preventing them from standing tall.

Dr. Landon Cameron

Cameron has been practicing in Southern Utah for the past five years. A Salt Lake City native, he completed his undergraduate education at Brigham Young University before attending medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He underwent residency training in podiatric surgery and is a member of both the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Podiatric Medical Association.

Podiatry is a hands-on specialty, and Cameron relishes the challenge of helping patients using the latest and best treatments on the market. While surgery is sometimes the only option, the clinic also implements therapies that are far less invasive to provide relief.

“We see results very quickly with a lot of the treatments we offer,” he said. “They can walk out of here feeling better than when they walked in here, and I love that about what I do.”

Cameron, who is board-certified in foot and ankle surgery and reconstructive surgery, serves as the St. George clinic’s primary surgeon. He will also oversee the opening of a new location in Mesquite, Nevada.

Carolyn Krenkel, NP

Krenkel graduated with honors from the Nebraska Methodist College of Nursing and obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Nursing. She completed certification as an advanced nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner in 2005 and has lived and worked in Southern Utah for the past 2 1/2 years.

Having worked in many disciplines of medicine, including family practice, urgent care, pain management and diabetes care, Krenkel brings an encyclopedia of nursing knowledge to Summit Foot + Ankle Clinic. She is especially passionate about educating diabetic patients to take better control of their condition.

“I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1993, so I understand where they’re coming from,” she said. “I can relate to them, and I think they can relate to me.”

Many diabetics suffer from neuropathy, a painful condition caused by nerve damage due to chronically high blood sugar levels. At Summit Foot + Ankle Clinic, Krenkel uses cutting-edge technologies and treatments to help alleviate nerve pain.

Summit Foot + Ankle Clinic offers therapeutic and surgical remedies for plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, hammer toes, bunions, neuropathy, fungus, tendonitis, sprains and myriad other issues that keep patients off their feet. Beyond traditional podiatry services, however, the clinic also provides diabetes education, mobile wound care and growth factor injections along with laser therapy to repair damaged nerves.

‘We can take care of it’

Numerous musculoskeletal problems either originate from or manifest through painful foot and ankle symptoms, Ellsworth said. As the foundation of the body, feet shouldn’t be ignored when they’re signaling that something is wrong. However, people often try to tough out foot pain and think it’s “normal.”

“We’re trying to educate people that it’s not normal, and it’s not going to go away on its own,” he added. “If it has to do with the foot and ankle, we can take care of it.”
