A white pickup truck that had been reported stolen was located by Washington City officers but the driver evaded police when they attempted to stop, according to Washington City Police Lt. Kory Klotz.

The truck got on I-15 northbound with police vehicles in pursuit. The Utah Department of Transportation issued a notice at 5:25 p.m. that both directions of I-15 were closed at milepost 16.

“I can confirm the vehicle was stolen and UHP did pursue the vehicle on I-15 based on information received from us,” Klotz wrote in a text to St. George News. “Multiple agencies assisted and the suspect was taken into custody when the vehicle was stopped.”

Klotz went on to say that he did not know how the vehicle was stopped or the details of the apprehension. Traffic flow resumed to normal after the suspect was apprehended.

Klotz reported that the investigation into the incident was ongoing as of 6 p.m.

This report is based on statements by law enforcement personnel and may not include the full scope of the findings.
