ST. GEORGE — An attempt to make it through an intersection on Sunset Boulevard resulted in a two-vehicle collision late Monday afternoon.
The crash happened at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Westridge Drive around 4:50 p.m.
St. George Police Officer Eric Trombley said at the scene that the driver of a Chevrolet SUV was in the intersection with the intent to turn left onto Westridge Drive after the traffic light turned yellow. At the same time, a Dodge pickup truck had entered the intersection during the yellow light with the driver intended to drive straight through.
Instead, the driver of the SUV moved to make it through the intersection before the light turned red and turned left in front of the Dodge pickup, police said.
While the Dodge was initially stuck in the middle of the intersection following the collision, both vehicles were moved to the roadside by responding police officers who worked to clear the intersection as much as possible for the upcoming rush hour.
The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to St. George Regional Hospital for medical evaluation while the driver of the Dodge was uninjured, Trombley said.
The Chevrolet driver likely will be cited for failure to yield, Trombley added.
