ST. GEORGE — The Utah Department of Transportation reported a lane closure on Interstate 15 in the southbound direction as crews work to clear an incident involving one semi-truck and a freeway barrier.
Emergency crews were dispatched Tuesday at 5:07 p.m. to the scene on southbound I-15 near milepost 24, the social media post said.
Traffic will be slow going as traffic merges into the right-hand lane while the investigation takes place and vehicles are cleared from the scene.
Although UDOT crews estimated both lanes to be completely reopened by 6:35 p.m., both lanes were open by 6 p.m.
Update 6 p.m., May 28, 2024: Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden said the crash occurred due to a semi-tractor and trailer blowing a tire, causing the driver to veer into the median.
The driver of the semi refused medical attention and no other vehicles or passengers were involved in the incident.
“He did experience some small injuries, but nobody was transported by medical,” he said.
Due to the quick work of the incident response crews, both southbound lanes are back open for travelers, Roden said.
